ThinWood™ Acoustic Pickguards
Builder & OEM Adoption
Designed for Instruments Where Tone Matters
ThinWood™ acoustic pickguards are developed for builders and players who understand that every gram added to a soundboard matters. By using carefully selected, quarter-sawn tonewoods and an ultra-thin construction, ThinWood™ pickguards offer reliable protection while preserving the responsiveness of a finely voiced acoustic top.
Unlike thick plastic pickguards commonly used on factory instruments, ThinWood™ pickguards are engineered to minimize added mass and allow the top to move more naturally. The result is a pickguard that integrates visually with the instrument and interacts more sympathetically with its tonal design.
Adopted on Guild's Ventura Reserve series of master-grade instruments handcrafted in Ventura, California
Artisan Guitar Creations approach to pickguard design has begun to appear not only in custom builds, but also in select limited series production instruments from established manufacturers. A recent acoustic guitar release from Guild Guitars features a ThinWood™ acoustic pickguard on the VR1 F-40 'Au Naturel' as part of its factory specifications, reflecting a growing awareness of how pickguard thickness and material affect soundboard performance in keeping with the finest craftsmanship.
For ThinWood™, this represents a meaningful alignment with the values long held by independent luthiers — that protective components should support, not compromise, the voice of the instrument.

From the Workbench to the Production Floor
ThinWood™ pickguards are fabricated with the same priorities valued by guitar builders: material integrity, minimal intervention, and respect for the instrument as a whole. Whether installed on a custom build or selected for a production model, the goal remains the same — protection that honors tone.
As more builders and manufacturers reconsider traditional pickguard materials, ThinWood™ continues to offer an alternative grounded in acoustic sensitivity and craft-level execution.
